If you haven’t heard of Facebook, then you probably shouldn’t be reading this article because there is a high chance that you can not use a computer without your mother or father helping you to the bathroom every five minutes. The world’s biggest social network has permeated every single facet of our lives, from the workplace to school and among family members, friends, colleagues and even acquaintances who you may only ever meet one time. They’re all on your friends list.

Many people have a problem with the fact that Facebook is so completely ingrained into our collective conscience. What was once a cool place to share photos with friends and family at University has now become a place for families to unite and for parents to keep an eye on their college-loving offspring. It has come a long way from the campus-based information and communication site that was its founder’s initial plan.

Over the last five years, it has not just been Facebook’s rise which has been so famous, but the fall of other social networks which once competed with the big blue and white monster. Myspace, once the crowned king of the internet (with the most popular website of them all, and traffic and advertising figures to match) has now become an afterthought, a joke made by ‘cool people’ who talk about what is now completely ‘out’. Their fall was due to a mixture of factors, one of which was the Facebook took the social network experience and made it ‘clean’ and thoughtful.

How did it do this? It removed the trash graphics, the email forwards, the glitzy text and served the public what they really wanted – information and communication. This first came in the form of ’status updates’ and wall posting. What is a status update? It’s something which Facebook users use to give information about what they are doing at any specific moment. Some also use them to share web addresses or funny websites which they think their friends might be interested in. This function on Facebook was completely new – it changed the face of messaging from ‘push’ (like email) to ‘mini blog’ (like now, Twitter).

Wall posting was similar – it was like walking over to someone’s own bulletin board and leaving a note for them. People would read other messages on their friends boards (also known as Facebook stalking) and then connect with new people. It was a cyber revolution. There was, however, always something missing – the live chat feature which some people thought would never be able to be integrated into a social network.

Facebook chat emoticons

That’s when Facebook chat was introduced. It had always been the intention of the biggest social network in the world to constantly keep innovating and evolving, to stay ahead of the curve. When they introduced their chat function many people thought that they had made a mistake – the beta process was a little slow and had errors – the javascript sometimes made the pages disappear or act strangely, but after ironing out all of these issues, it turned out that they had struck gold. Facebook chat was one of the most popular clients on the internet, and its fans were wild for its clean cut style and cool colours.

One thing seemed to be missing however – Facebook chat emoticons! Where were the colouful smileys and symbols that were in nearly every other chat client available on the web? Text emotions were ok to use for some people, but generally speaking it was unheard of for an organization to create software like Facebook chat and not include Facebook chat emoticons listed for people to find. So where were they? The answer was that they were hidden in the software itself! After hours of testing, users managed to find a full list of the icons available for use in the chat program, and many were surprised by the different types and styles.

We will provide more exact information about which emoticons for Facebook chat are available in a later post, but for now just know this – they are some of the coolest and most fun symbols around! You can find some standard ones such as a love heart, smiley face, angel and devil – but also some strange emoticons or rare ones like a robot emoticon or a shark smiley! There is even a penguin! Keep reading for much more information about Facebook chat emoticons and how to use them!

In order to analyze the patterns of search of the users of Facebook a study has gone forward to identify the most popular pages of the social network.

More than 600.000 commercial pages were analyzed in order to find the use patterns. Some of the aspects that have been born in mind in this investigation are the popularity, the quantity of released content, the number of followers and the categories.

After the analysis, the position of “more popular” in Facebook has been clear: the page of Michael Jackson is the most followed of the network with more than 10 million fans. That of actor Vin Diesel follows him, with seven million fans, and that of Obama, with 6,9 millions.

In a discreet one the fourth and fifth position in the ranking of the most followed, finds the Facebook page, with almost six million fans (5,8) and that of the polemic actress Megan Fox, with 5,1 million fans.

In an open letter to users that appeared on the site Wednesday morning, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said the social networking site has outgrown the usefulness of regional networks.

With roughly 350 millions users, Facebook is enhancing its privacy controls and eliminating its regional framework for online communities.

When Facebook launched in early 2004 as an online network for college students to stay connected, the model centered on sharing information with “networks” of school friends. Over time, the network expanded to companies and regions as well.

Almost 50 percent of all Facebook users are members of regional networks, with some regions encompassing entire countries, such as India and China.

“As Facebook has grown, some of these regional networks now have millions of members and we’ve concluded that this is no longer the best way for you to control your privacy,” Zuckerberg said.

“We are adding something that many of you have asked for – the ability to control who sees each individual piece of content you create of upload. In addition, we will also be fulfilling a request made by many of you to make the privacy-settings page simpler by combining some settings,” he said.

“The plan we’ve come up with is to remove regional networks completely and create a simpler model for privacy control where you can set content to be available to only your friends, friends of our friends, or everyone.”

In the letter, Facebook’s users will be asked to review and update their privacy settings. A message on the site will explain the changes and take users to the page where they can update the settings, Zuckerberg said.

So far, more than 22,000 users have posted comments on Zuckerberg’s letter, most of which are positive feed backs.

Are Facebook groups the new intervention? A new group on Facebook has been started by the son of John Mellencamp, the rock and roll legend. The purpose of the group is to rally support for Mellencamp to quit smoking. The deal made between father and son is that if 1,000,000 people join the group, Mellencamp will toss the cancer sticks for good.

So far the group has about 17,000 fans, putting Mellencamp’s son Speck kind of far from his goal. Nevertheless the group is still growing, and fans are already leaving wall posts with encouraging words and advice on how to quit smoking. As with many other Facebook groups, this one has potential to continue to grow, and the buzz to make that happen.

There is also the possibility of this being a publicity stunt. Mellencamp released an album earlier this summer, and has been touring for a good portion of the year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is seemingly a long-time smoker, having graced the cover of several of an early with cigarette en-mouth.

But is a public intervention on a major social network necessary? Will it even work? In Mellencamp’s case, it’s good to know that it’s at least a mutual deal between himself and his son. A loving gesture, perhaps, of one’s kin encouraging his father to take on a healthier lifestyle. The public declaration of Mellencamp to quit smoking should his son’s group gain a million users also holds Mellencamp accountable.

As a Facebook group created by the child of a rock star, however, it seems as though the ability to reach such a lofty goal and gain the support of so many is only possible on rock star level. What kind of message does this send to children of regular mortals, and could such an indirect pressure strategy work for them as well?

Facebook is a network that builds out one’s graph based on the people they already know. If someone is willing to put their goals out there for the world to see, then their friends and family members will likely respect that decision and give their support. Therefore, a Facebook group intervention may actually be a good way in which to encourage certain behavior and milestones for individuals.

Doing so in a non-mutual manner, however, can lead to serious issues. Feelings can be hurt and people can get themselves into a lot of trouble. Many groups that are initiated in support of one cause or another, as they pertain to other individuals, are typically frowned upon if they are done in poor taste. A complaint group started for a high school teacher resulted in the group administrator being kicked out of college.

Regardless of the intention behind a Facebook group page, one thing remains clear; Facebook is still a powerful network that influences our behavior. There was a time when towns were small enough to better control an individual’s behavior because of the level of accountability a smaller community holds for its members. Perhaps Facebook’s series of social graphs created by individual users has the same effect in a virtual sense, with very tangible ramifications.

The official Facebook request for the faced business, was free formerly for the Nokia devices, but only for Symbian S60 5th Edition and the platform S40, therefore the first phones Symbian S60 are the E71 and E72 3rd Edition in obtaining a Facebook application officially.

Most of the basic characteristics of Facebook are included in the version of Nokia E71 and E72, although one that other one has eliminated without any excuse.

Probably there will add shortly more phones S60 3 ª edition to themselves, although for the time being an exact date is not known.
